Aero India 2011 - India poised to emerge as a global hub for aerospace industries'

The vision behind the Aero India has changed over the years, from showcasing defence aerospace products from India and abroad in earlier shows, the vision has grown in tune with aspirations of India to become a major aerospace sector hub in the world.
With the rapid strides that the Indian economy is taking today is evident from the increase in its GDP, the aero show has inevitably undergone a sea- change.  The record participation of 675 exhibitors from across the globe including  45 overseas countries, the 8th edition of Aero India has been billed as the biggest of its kind in South Asia. The biennial aero show is organized by the Ministry of Defence, Government of India between 9-13 February 2011 at Bangalore and managed by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Aero India 2011 marks the beginning of a new chapter aimed at recognizing India’s growth in this sector, as also the huge multi billion dollar defence business that it offers. A case in point is the huge order that is up for grabs for the Indian Air Force’s Medium Multi Role Combat Aircraft.  Aviation giants like Lockheed, Boeing and Saab in addition to the French and the Russians, are all there making a determined bid to get the order.
The major country level delegations at the show are from the US, France, Germany, UK, Russia, Italy, Belgium, Israel besides others.   The products and services on display range from the best in aviation and related technologies. These also include military and civil aircraft, vital components for aircraft engines, avionics systems and sub systems  and  airfield radars. Civil aviation has been introduced in Aero India 2011 along with Aerospace sector.
Significantly, the number of   domestic and international aircraft that are participating  at the show has soared to 93 against  67 in 2009, a clear indication  that the event has arrived in a big way.
Host State, Karnataka, which has earmarked over 900 acres of area near the Bengaluru International airport to develop aerospace industries, is participating as an exhibitor for the first time.
Aero India 2011 would also provide impetus to the indigenous industry by facilitating better interaction with global experts in aviation technologies, equipments, components and systems with greater focus on small and medium enterprises.
